Eaton Helps Open Window to the Wild

September 04, 2018
MILWAUKEE – Sept. 2, 2018 – The Zoological Society of Milwaukee is pleased to announce a $120,000 donation from power management company Eaton for the Window to the Wild Capital Campaign. The Zoological Society and Milwaukee County Zoo are in the midst of a capital campaign that will reimagine the Zoo over the next 25 years. The first phase of the Window to the Wild Capital Campaign is Adventure Africa. This project will transform 25% of the developed footprint of the Zoo and will create new homes for the elephants, African hoofstock, hippos and rhinos. Adventure Africa will be the largest physical change to the Milwaukee County Zoo since its opening in 1961.
Eaton originally donated $100,000 during the quiet phase of the capital campaign, then followed up with another gift of $10,000 and just announced in August they will donate an additional $10,000. Their generous gift will help support one of the five elephant suites inside the new Elephant Care Center. The bedrooms are designed to give each elephant a space to stretch out and call their own. “We are proud to support the Zoological Society and the Milwaukee County Zoo. Eaton’s engagement and passion for supporting the Zoo embodies the spirit of the employees of Eaton as well as our company’s aspirational goal to make our communities stronger and be active stewards of the environment!” Jon Wehrli, VP/GM, Power Reliability Division, Eaton.
The Milwaukee County Zoo is the only zoo within a six-hour drive that houses elephants. Thanks to Eaton’s continuous giving, the Zoological Society is closer to its $25 million goal. “It is remarkable to see a company like Eaton not only make one donation but to come back and continue to give,” says Jodi Gibson, Zoological Society president and CEO. “We are honored to work with them as we continue to make the Zoo a key destination site.” The elephant exhibit is expected to open in spring 2019.
