TOWN OF GENESEE – Generac Power Systems Inc. announced Tuesday that it will commit $8 million to $10 million on remodeling, expanding and upgrading its Waukesha County headquarters.
According to a press release, $5 million to $6 million will go toward remodeling and expanding its headquarters and $3 million to $4 million will go toward upgrades to create a technical center.
The release states that the expansion and remodel will be funded by “organic growth” and should be completed by 2013. Generac has already purchased the land adjacent to its headquarters in preparation for additional future expansion as well.
“The expansion of Generac’s headquarters is great news for Waukesha County and the (Milwaukee 7) region,” said Suzanne Kelley, president of the Waukesha County Business Alliance. “This investment will not only support and create high-quality manufacturing jobs, but it will also build our community’s reputation for advanced manufacturing innovations.”
Generac manufactures backup power generation equipment and currently employs more than 550 people at its headquarters. It plans to add more than 200 new jobs over the next three years, the release states.
“Generac is one of our largest employers in the county and when a company like Generac expands, the county grows right along with them,” said Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas. “The company is full of employees and a leadership team that’s active in the greater community in terms of their generosity though projects like the Kern Foundation and the Second Chance Program.”
The release describes the technical center as a “stateof-the-art research, development and testing facility that will include investments in equipment for data acquisition, analysis and testing of engines, generators and other power equipment.”
Specifically, the release states that new test chambers containing equipment to test of emissions, sound, and environmentally controlled conditions will enable Generac’s engineering team to enhance its knowledge and competency in these areas.
Oliver Construction of Oconomowoc will serve as general contractor for the project, the release states.
“We appreciate Generac’s investment in the community and look forward to watching them grow and thrive for many years to come,” Kelley said.
