Grammy winners Los Lobos and Richard Marx kick off 2014-15 season

October 02, 2014
Brookfield, WI - Intimate concert experiences with two Grammy Award-winning artists, Los Lobos and Richard Marx, will launch the thirteenth season at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts this fall.

The Los Lobos concert on Friday, October 3, at 8 pm, will include an opportunity for audience members to meet the band at an exclusive pre-show dinner. Richard Marx will perform on Friday, November 7, at 8 pm. A limited number of single tickets for both concerts in the Wilson Center's Harris Theater, as well as the Los Lobos pre-show dinner, are still available for purchase online at www.Wilson-Center.com or through the Box Office at (262) 781-9520.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of their Grammy-winning release La Pistola y El Corazon (1990 - Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album), Los Lobos' 40th anniversary tour marks the first time ever that the band has performed the album. The one-night-only performance at the Wilson Center will also include fan favorites from the band's new critically-acclaimed live album Disconnected in New York City.

Audiences of the nearly sold-out concert can look forward to a semi-acoustic set that features fiery bursts of Latin rock fusion with mariachi textures, Latin blues funk classics, funk pop/rock tunes and traditional-flavored classics. "Playing these songs acoustically makes them feel more intimate," said band member Conrad Lozano (bass, guitarron, vocals). "[It] allows for more subtle elements of the songs to stand out."

Adding to the intimacy of the evening, the Wilson Center will host a special pre-show dinner at 6 pm on October 3 in the Dawes Studio Theater. Audience members who purchase tickets to the dinner will have an opportunity to meet the band prior to the concert.

In addition to Richard Marx's Wilson Center debut, audiences at the November 7th concert will enjoy many of the number one hits that span the successful career of this charismatic performer, while also venturing into the new territory that Marx is exploring - both sonically and lyrically - on his newly released album, Beautiful Goodbye. A Chicago native, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, musician, and producer made history as the only male solo artist to have his first seven singles hit the 'Top 5' on the Billboard charts. His rock tunes and romantic ballads created the soundtrack to memorable moments in people's lives and dealt with "the highest concept of forever," according to Marx.

While Beautiful Goodbye and his highly anticipated Whatever We Started tour diverge from Marx's previous work - which he acknowledges to be the direct result of the changes in his personal life, including his recent divorce from his wife of more than 25 years - Marx hasn't abandoned his romantic spirit. "I never want to lose that. The difference is in a commitment to the idea of forever instead of just enjoying the moment," said Marx.

Los Lobos and Richard Marx are presented as part of the Wilson Center's 2014-15 Performing Arts Series, which is sponsored by Krause Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Enterforce, and Godfrey & Kahn S.C.

Full performance information is listed below. Ticket prices as listed include a $2 per ticket facility fee.

Reservations for the Los Lobos pre-show dinner may be made through the Wilson Center Box Office at (262) 781-9520 or www.Wilson-Center.com.

Los Lobos - 40th anniversary tour!
Friday, October 3, 8 pm | Harris Theater
Tickets: $39-$69 / Group Tickets (10 or more) $34-$59

In 1973, their hybrid of traditional regional Mexican folk music, rock and roll, blues, R&B, and country confounded audiences and critics alike. Forty years later, award-winning band Los Lobos is adored by fans and hailed by critics for their extensive range and enduring influence. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of their Grammy-winning release La Pistola y El Corazon (1990 - Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album), Los Lobos' 40th anniversary tour marks the first time ever that the band has performed the album in its entirety. As part of the tour, the band also will perform a set of semi-acoustic fan favorites from their new critically-acclaimed live album Disconnected in New York City. The LA Times declares the Los Lobos "pioneering border fusionists, multiple Grammy winners, and one of the two indisputably most influential Chicano musical acts in history, along with Ritchie Valens." Perhaps fittingly, Los Lobos was propelled to stardom by their remake of Ritchie Valens hit "La Bamba," and hasn't looked back since. "This is what happens when five guys create a magical sound [and] then stick together" declared Rolling Stone.

Prior to the Friday, October 3, performance, the Wilson Center will host a special pre-show dinner at 6:00 pm in the Dawes Studio Theater that includes an exclusive meet-and-greet opportunity with band members. Dinner is $50 per person and includes one complimentary drink ticket.

Richard Marx - Wilson Center debut!

Tickets: $39-$69 / Group Tickets (10 or more) $34-$59

With sales of more than 30 million albums worldwide, he remains the only male solo artist to have his first seven singles hit the 'Top 5' on the Billboard charts. Grammy Award-winning artist Richard Marx has scored an amazing 14 number one singles, including "Hold on to the Nights," "Now and Forever," "Satisfied," and the global smash hit "Right Here Waiting," his bestselling and most enduring single, which remained on the charts more than ten years after its release. Also a prolific songwriter, Marx has written for Barbra Streisand, Vince Gill, LeAnn Rimes, Natalie Cole, Travis Tritt, and penned number one hits for Josh Groban, Kenny Rogers, 'N Sync, and Keith Urban; it was with Urban's hit "Long Hot Summer" that Marx joined an exclusive club of singer-songwriters who have had a number one hit in each of the last four decades.
