Habitat for Humanity To Celebrate Grand Opening of Expanded Waukesha ReStore

October 17, 2018
Waukesha, WI (October 9, 2018)- Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County is excited to announce the grand opening of an expansion of the Habitat ReStore will take place on Wednesday, October 17th at 10:00am. The ReStore has completed a 9,000 square foot expansion, doubling the current size of the store, located in the Westbrook Shopping Center at 2120 E. Moreland Blvd. in Waukesha.

The ReStore, a home improvement store, accepts donations of furniture, appliances, cabinetry, home goods, building materials and more from businesses and individuals in the community. These donations are then sold to the general public at a fraction of the retail price.

The ReStore is an ideal shopping spot for homeowners, renters, contractors, landlords, do-it-yourselfers and treasure hunters. The store is open from 10am-6pm Tuesday-Saturday, and proceeds from the sale of these items are used to fund Habitat’s mission of selling affordable homes to families in need of a hand up, which helps reduce blight, increases stability for the homeowner and strengthens neighborhoods.

“Every ReStore purchase and every ReStore donation creates the opportunity for a better life, the chance for a family to put down roots and own their home,” said Diane McGeen, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County. “Shopping, donating or volunteering at the ReStore is such a great way to contribute to workforce housing solutions in your own community.”

The expansion will allow the ReStore to accept a wider selection and a greater quantity of donated items. Donations are welcome and can be dropped off at the ReStore during normal business hours. For larger items, a free pick-up can be scheduled at the donor’s convenience.

“Double the space means we have the chance to double the amount of donors who can remodel, move or downsize and know that their items won’t just become landfill waste,” said McGeen. Donors can call 262-662-6062, email restore@habitatwaukesha.org, or visit habitatwaukesha.org/restore.

Members of the community are invited to visit and shop the ReStore on October 17th when the expansion is opened to the public for the first time. For more information, visit HabitatWaukesha.org/Restore.

About Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore
Since 1989, Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County has addressed the lack of affordable housing in our community by providing decent homes with an affordable mortgage to help lower to moderate income families obtain self-sufficiency and break the cycle of poverty. Habitat partner families help build their home alongside volunteers and make regular mortgage payments.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell building materials, appliances, new and gently used furniture, and home accessories at a fraction of the retail price. Last year alone, Habitat ReStores raised $123 million for homebuilding while keeping usable materials out of landfills. With more than 1,000 stores in five countries, proceeds generated by Habitat ReStores are used to help build or improve homes locally and around the world.
