Interfaith Senior Programs to Honor Terry Sutter with Edmond J. Vaklyes, Jr. Memorial Award

May 11, 2015
Waukesha, WI – Interfaith Senior Programs, a Waukesha County non-profit organization serving seniors, and adults with disabilities, will be honoring Community Volunteer Terry Sutter with the Edmond J. Vaklyes, Jr. Memorial Award next week at its annual Tapestry Dinner fundraiser.

The Edmond J. “Ned” Vaklyes, Jr. Memorial Award was initiated in 2014 to ensure that Vaklyes’ legacy would be honored and remembered each year, and to recognize a business, individual or organization that embodies the characteristics that Ned exhibited through his life, providing an excellent level of support to help seniors, adults with disabilities, and their families throughout Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

Sutter has been a longtime volunteer with Interfaith Senior Programs, as well as several other Waukesha and Milwaukee County nonprofits. He has led Boards of Directors, reviewed hundreds of nonprofit audits and IRS Form 990s, attended an estimated 1,500 meetings, poured wine for intermissions, helped school children to appreciate art, heaved boxes of food in warehouses, and sold an estimated 5,000 raffle tickets. He is often described as the devil’s advocate voice needed to challenge boards to be realistic in their planning, to raise more money, to do more to support the nonprofits they are governing.

Interfaith is proud to recognize Sutter especially for his compassion when helping those who are caring for an older adult, especially older adults living with dementia. He has been vocal about volunteering in retirement as not only a nice activity, but essential for staying connected to the community and to have a purpose long after one’s full-time work responsibilities have ended.

The theme for the Annual Tapestry Dinner is “Be the Ripple of Change”, and the event will take place Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at The Legend of Brandybrook in Wales. In addition to the award presentation, the event will include several volunteers and participants sharing their stories of the impact Interfaith has had on their lives and the lives of those around them, a silent and live auction and an opportunity for attendees to support Interfaith’s many programs. Major sponsors of the event include ProHealth Care, Capri Senior Communities, Summit Woods, Imperial – a Visual Communications Company, GE, and Vrakas CPAs + Advisors.
