Brookfield, Wis. – February 25, 2019 – Superior Support Resources, Inc. (SSR), an award-winning IT firm, is participating in Be the Spark, a program launched by the Council of Small Business Executives (COSBE). Be the Spark gives 1,800 students from Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) an inside look at the diverse businesses that help grow the Milwaukee-area economy. COSBE, the small business arm of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC), is partnering with 50 small businesses representing a wide variety of industries to provide the tours, where students meet and interact with employees in a host of different jobs.

This is the fourth consecutive year that SSR has participated in Be the Spark since the program’s inception in 2014. On February 20, 2019, SSR hosted 30 students from Fairview School at its corporate office in Brookfield. In March, 40 students from Vieau School will visit SSR for the tour.

On SSR’s Be the Spark business tour, the company’s team teaches the students through two hands-on activities: building a computer from scratch and writing software code. In addition, a portion of the tour provides a glimpse into business roles at SSR including marketing, human resources, sales, client care, accounting, help desk, and IT engineering. Discussions cover a variety of topics including the skills and education needed for these types of careers and always include time for the students to ask questions.

“Our team enjoys mentoring students through MMAC COSBE’s Be the Spark business tours program,” said Sarit Singhal, President & CEO of SSR. “At SSR, we are passionate about giving back to the community, and supporting education in young people is something I personally care deeply about. We hope we’ve encouraged the students to start thinking about their future career, whether it be in technology or another exciting business role that we showcased on our tour.”

“The Be the Spark program gives kids a chance to learn not only what a company makes and does, but also what it takes to get those jobs,” said Stephanie Hall, COSBE Executive Director. “COSBE is dedicated to helping our region ensure a strong and sustainable workforce. The key to the success of our businesses – and the entire region – is building a pipeline of future talent.”

“Milwaukee Public Schools is committed to ensuring that all graduates are college and career ready and a key component of that is showcasing career pathways,” MPS Superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver said. “We are grateful to the 50 COSBE companies for opening their doors to our students. This experience gives students the opportunity to see the different pathways available at these local businesses firsthand – and it gives them the opportunity to see how those pathways connect with what they’re learning in the classroom.”
