Waukesha County Business Alliance Supports Arena Plan

July 14, 2015
Alliance Board votes unanimously, 25-0, to endorse legislation

The Waukesha County Business Alliance supports Senate Bill 209, which will provide $250 million in public funding for a new sports and entertainment center that will serve as a catalyst for economic development in the City of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.

Ensuring the economic vibrancy of Wisconsin's largest city and commercial center is important not only to the region, but the state as a whole. We believe this project will provide taxpayers with a sound return on investment. Significant benefits include short-term and long-term employment growth in an area that desperately needs jobs, redevelopment and new start-up businesses in the arena vicinity, better talent attraction and retention for employers throughout Southeast Wisconsin, and a more positive, dynamic image for the entire region and state. Additional benefits result from the estimated $6.5 million in state income tax revenue generated annually by the Milwaukee Bucks and visiting teams and avoided taxpayer liability of $120 million for the Bradley Center.

The Alliance supports Senate Bill 209 as a balanced funding solution that protects taxpayer interests and enhances the economic health of our region and state. We further believe it is important to retain the Milwaukee Bucks as an asset and brand for the State of Wisconsin.

Additional information about the proposed arena is available in this fact sheet.
