WAUKESHA COUNTY CELEBRATES DIVIDENDS TO COMMUNITITES THAT PARTICIPATE IN THE RECYCLING PROGRAM

June 27, 2018
(WAUKESHA, WI) – Today, Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow is proud to announce that communities who participate in the Waukesha County Recycling Program received significant funds for tax relief. The total amount of dividend payments made to communities is $1.75 million for 2018.

“Recycling is up 44% since the transition to single sort recycling. The increase in recycling also means Waukesha County communities divert 15% more material, over 12,000 tons, from the landfill, saving about $600,000 through reduced landfill disposal costs,” said Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow.

Each year, municipalities that participate in the program receive dividend payments to offset residential recycling program costs. The payments vary for each partner based on individual program costs, tons of recyclables and recycling rate. A breakdown of the recycling dividend payment for individual communities is located on the next page.

Since it began in 1991, partner communities have collectively recycled over 556,000 tons of materials and avoided more than $26 million in landfill disposal costs. Together, local residents continue to recycle more and recycle right, another impressive example of how Waukesha County is leading the way.
