Waukesha County Technical College recognizes October as Manufacturing Month

October 09, 2014
PEWAUKEE, Wis. (Thursday, October 2, 2014) –The State of Wisconsin has again declared October as Manufacturing Month, and throughout October, businesses and schools from around the state will host a variety of events to explore manufacturing and learn about its tremendous impact on the economy.

Waukesha County Technical College will host Discover Manufacturing on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the Service Building of the main Pewaukee campus. The event is designed for parents and students to get a closer look at what manufacturing looks like in the 21st century and how it can provide a solid career opportunity for those considering working in the field.

As part of the event, participants will have opportunities to meet cutting-edge manufacturers – representatives from more than 20 area companies will be on hand – and learn more about high-paying and in-demand industry careers. Additionally, participants will be able to explore industrial labs and receive information on the types of education needed to secure careers in manufacturing.

According to the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, the state’s chamber of commerce and largest business trade association, manufacturing contributes more than $53 billion to Wisconsin’s economic output. More than 16 percent of Wisconsin’s workforce is directly employed in manufacturing, outpacing the national average of 9 percent. Additionally, the average pay for a manufacturing working in Wisconsin is $53,000 per year – more than $10,000 higher than the average pay for all Wisconsin private-sector workers.
