“The Carnival of the Animals!” with Pianist, John Schindler & News Anchor, Melissa Barclay
Lions, Kangaroos, and Pianists, Oh My! Enjoy Saint-Saens’ THE CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS performed by the Wisconsin Philharmonic and guest pianist, John Schindler at St. Luke’s Lutheran in Waukesha on January 27th. Melissa Barclay, Co-Anchor of Wisconsin’s Afternoon News, will narrate PETER & THE WOLF and will read all new poetry created by local students for the different animals from Saint-Saens’ THE CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS. An array of activities for families will be happening beforehand, including an instrument petting zoo by White House of Music. Cookies and cider will be provided after the concert.
To honor such a carnival of animals, we encourage the little audience members to bring their own stuffed animals to sit and enjoy the concert with. If you have any stuffed animals that you wish to donate, the Wisconsin Philharmonic will be collecting those at the concert to donate to a local charity so kids everywhere can have a little friend to cuddle.
Pianist, John Schindler, is a past winner of the Wisconsin Philharmonic’s Chapman Memorial Piano Competition. A biennial piano competition that is open to all Waukesha County students, ages 14 to 20. As a part of his winnings, John received a scholarship check to put toward his future career in music and also received the opportunity to play as the guest artist for the orchestra’s holiday concert in Dec. of 2015. Melissa Barclay joins the Wisconsin Philharmonic for the first time to narrate PETER AND THE WOLF and the winning poetry from local students for the animals in Saint-Saens’ THE CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS. Melissa has been the Co-Anchor of Wisconsin’s Afternoon News since August of 2017 and can be found hosting on WTMJ 620AM from 3-6pm.
