Woodman's Food Market to open in City of Waukesha

August 15, 2011

The City of Waukesha is proud to announce that Woodman’s Food Market, Inc. has revealed plans for the construction of a proposed store in the City of Waukesha. In 2010, Mayor Jeff Scrima invited and encouraged Woodman’s to join the corporate citizenship of Waukesha and according to Clint Woodman, Vice President of Woodman’s, “Mayor Scrima has been a driving force behind Woodman’s decision to locate a store in the City of Waukesha. Woodman’s takes nothing for granted and looks forward to working with the City to obtain the necessary entitlements for construction and operation of our proposed facilities”.

Pending receipt of all necessary governmental approvals, Woodman’s will construct its food merchandising center and gas station on the approximately 34 acre parcel located at the northwest corner of Hwy 164 and Main Street. A preliminary timeline for the proposed development provides for construction to begin during the first quarter of 2012 with a store opening slated for not later than the summer of 2013. Mayor Scrima stated that “This has been and will continue to be a team effort. We look forward to the quality of products, economic revitalization, and jobs that Woodman’s will provide to our community.”

Woodman’s is a Wisconsin-based employee-owned company with eleven locations in Wisconsin and three in Illinois. The proposed food store and gas station will create approximately 215 employment opportunities.  The average wage for a Woodman’s employee is in excess of $15.00 per hour equating to annual direct wages in excess of $5 million. Woodman’s also provides its full-time employees with a deferred compensation retirement program in the form of their employee stock ownership plan.
