LAUNCH TO REOPEN, FEE ADDED
(WAUKESHA, WI) – Waukesha County Parks’ School Section Lake Access area is now open for public use after a year-long restoration project to the boat launch and dam structure. Lake users can self-register for a daily or annual launch permit on site. The launch is located at S31W38099 School Section Lake Road in the Town of Ottawa.
“The upgrades to the School Section Lake Access area have made for a safer launch site for users,” said Waukesha County Department of Parks and Land Use Director Dale Shaver. “The restoration of the dam stabilizes lake levels, protects adjacent properties, and enhances the public use of the lake.”
Boaters utilizing the launch area will notice significant improvements. The metal ramp was replaced with a concrete ramp to improve safety and decrease maintenance needs. The accompanying pier was also upgraded with more secure footing to the shore and a leveled entry point.
The repairs made to the earthen berm and concrete spillway structure, which together create the lake, have extended the life of the dam, and will help prevent future muskrat damage in those areas. A new set of stop logs were also installed to control the lake level.
Lake access permits can be purchased for daily or annual use at four of Waukesha County's lake access sites. Lake Access Permits are available for purchase through use of the park pay tank, or at www.waukeshacountyparks.com under “Online Services.”
