Yaggy Colby Associates Receives ACEC Engineering Excellence Grand Award

Yaggy Colby Associates’ Delafield, Wisconsin office is pleased to announce the firm received a prestigious 2013 Engineering Excellence Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota (ACEC/MN).  This honor was awarded to the firm for the 2nd Street SW Reconstruction – Phase 2 project in Rochester, Minnesota.  The award was presented at the 47th annual banquet held in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 31, 2014.
 
The Yaggy Colby Associates Team provided planning, design, and construction services for 2nd Street SW Reconstruction - Phase 2, the first project implemented under the City’s comprehensive 2nd Street Corridor Framework Plan.  The design transformed the corridor by incorporating low impact development (LID) stormwater measures, providing an improved pedestrian and transit experience, and enhancing the streetscape.  Additional features included new bus stop nodes, signal modifications, LED street lights, colored concrete pavement, and increased green space.  The project was completed with minimal impacts to users during construction. 
 
The 2nd Street SW corridor is very significant for the City of Rochester.  The heart of Rochester’s downtown district has been revitalized through several major projects.  However, the district’s gateway, 2nd Street SW, lacked the aesthetics and amenities to complement this transformation.  The improved corridor is now visually appealing, safe and comfortable, sustainable, and provides a Complete Street for multiple user types.  In addition this vibrant corridor and streetscape will help prime the area for redevelopment.
 
      Yaggy Colby Associates provided lead design and civil engineering services, as well as project management and construction services.  Additional Yaggy Colby Associates staff included structural engineers, landscape architects, and surveyors.  Other firms who were on the team included:
  • Stantec, assisting with streetscape concepts, LID stormwater elements, signal design, environmental documentation, and private utility coordination.
  • American Engineering Testing, Inc., providing soil borings and the infiltration testing and reports.
  • Elcor Construction, serving as the general contractor.
