Many use the words mission and vision interchangeably however it is important to have both. Growing up farming and showing livestock gave me insight to the differences. Every day we had chores to do (mission), and the return of investment of time and money came when we sold those animals and earned money to continue to grow the business, which was our family’s vision.

One memory that always brings a smile to my face was when my brother and I were showing sheep at a state fair and as people were passing by, they would ask to touch the newly clipped wool. The educator in me was more than happy to accommodate, the entrepreneur in me was placing the wool in sandwich bags the next day and selling each for .50 cents! We made $100 dollars before the end of the week and had money to buy a meal better than fast food.

As the years have passed, I have applied the concepts of having a mission and vision to the decisions I make both personally and professionally. Many business owners fall into the trap of “settling” financially, personally and having disgruntled employees because they don’t know how or what to do to pivot in having a mission and vision.

It simply does not have to be this way.

Since learning many lessons building and selling businesses, and now joining Business Breakthrough Advisors my mission is to provide strategies to business owners so they can grow expediently without continuing to “sell” more time for money or worse yet having no ROI at all. My vision is to be business owners’ partner of choice for years to come.
